By the March call, each group should generate a key figure for discussion and posting on a project page at reanalyses.org. This will help address the concerns about all groups being informed about Task Force activities.

I have found it helpful on many levels to have MERRA's assimilated observations and forecast departures available in an easily accessible format. The data are gridded following the reanalysis, so similar software can analyze it. One can easily characterize the existing observations or their data count for a given time, place or feature. The forecast and analysis departures can also help identify the observations role in the analysis. (radiances get tricky) I suspect it would be instructive to compare the forecast departures among reanalyses.

Yes, GIO data, they are written at the analysis time, so 6 hourly. However, we haven't released 6 hourly radiances, mainly due to size. We haven't produced an RMS, but that is a good point. Each conventional ob type is separated though.
