TIRA Discussion on Joint Activities

Created by michael.bosilovich on - Updated on 06/02/2017 13:15

In the final TIRA white paper, it was suggested that certain joint activities among reanalysis development centers, might be useful in making broad development progress attacking general reanalysis issues. Several ideas along these lines are discussed here.

Because we have experts in atmosphere, ocean, and land surface in this team, and because the near-future direction is toward coupled Earth system reanalyses, thinking about some diagnostics which are really coupling processes between the lower troposphere and the surface (both ocean and land). Water cycle may be a good starting point? where GEWEX  has not yet seriously started to analyze? Role of soil moisture? Evaporation calculation method dependency? But, in the end, precipitation and cloud processes are the major source of differences and difficulty???
